Where we work Europe and Middle East Cyprus The Cyprus St John Association and Brigade was first established in 1926 and since then is consistently striving to achieve its noble cause, i.e. to train First Aiders and to provide qualified personnel for day-care services at home for both adults and children. It is a charity institution and has been registered so in 1975 after a decision by the Council of Ministers. The paramount aims of the Association are to enhance social welfare at large and to alleviate human discomfort, suffering, illness or danger; in doing so no discrimination is accommodated with regard to sex, race, colour, social status, faith or belief. Training of First Aiders constitute the main activity through which the objectives of the Association are achieved. Services Training Programmes Since 1926, St John Cyprus has been offering training in First Aid at the maximum possible qualitative level and at the same time at the lowest cost. All their training programmes, meet fully the guidelines set by the Labour Inspectorate Department of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance and the European Resuscitation Council. First Aid at Events First Aid training activities have been redefined due to the pandemic of Covid-19. To accommodate the new measures all voluntary work has been centred around blood campaigns and donations as sufficient quantities of blood with public hospitals has become even more problematic. Other initiatives, such as cooperation with local authorities in the area of voluntarism, lectures in First Aid to the general public, visits to hospitals, have been kept very low to minimise exposure to the virus.
