St John Ambulance Ghana (SJAG) was established in 1937 to begin Emergency Medical services in the country. It was given an Act of parliament in 1959 that is, Act 57 of 1959, and operates under the subvention of the Ministry of Health (MOH). The agency operate as an Emergency Medical Service (EMS) provider in the area of First Aid Services, Ambulance services, Community Health and Youth Development.

St John Ambulance Ghana (SJAG) has over 6000 volunteers all over Ghana that assist in the operation of the agency. These volunteers are in various professions including Medicine, Environmental Management, Transportation, Sports, Law, General Business, etc. nationwide.


Services

First Aid

St John first aiders and volunteers participate in a range of public events in order to offer first aid where it is required for participants and spectators alike.

These events include: 

  • National Day celebrations
  • Athletics and Soccer (league, local & international matches)
  • Cycling Competition
  • Milo Marathon Races
  • The monthly Health Walk organized by Ghana Health Service.
  • Home-based Care for the sick, the elderlies and people with mobility problems needing help.

First Aid Training 

First Aid Training has been the most significant part of the work of St John Ambulance Ghana. They provide a range of international standard courses for the public and for specific sections of the community.
