Trish Aitken has been a dedicated member of St John Scotland for eight years, serving as a Patient Transport Driver for dialysis patients in Fife. She also supports the service as Deputy Transport Co-ordinator and Treasurer for the Fife Area. Motivated by a love of driving and helping others, Trish provides reassurance and reliable support to patients while contributing to the smooth running of vital community services.

Grace Johnstone has served four years with St John Ambulance Australia as an Advanced Responder and Divisional Officer for Farrar Youth. She balances operational duties with mentoring young volunteers, helping them develop clinical skills, confidence, and experience at their first events. Recognised as Adult Volunteer of the Year and a Priory Esquire, Grace’s leadership has created a safe, supportive, and engaging environment, inspiring the next generation of St John responders.

Gill Haigney has spent over a decade with St John Ambulance Ireland, rising from volunteer to Director of National Event Cover. She leads medical support at events nationwide, mentors emerging leaders, and ensures high standards of care and volunteer welfare at major events like the St Patrick’s Day Festival and Dublin Horse Show.

Yolandé Oosthuizen’s journey with St John South Africa reflects her strong commitment to service, leadership, and the organisation’s values. After being made redundant in 2023, she demonstrated resilience and faith before being reappointed as HR Director in 2024. In her role, she focuses on strengthening governance, supporting staff and volunteers, and fostering a culture of accountability, unity, and care while ensuring HR practices align with St John’s mission to serve communities.

Jane Van-Tiel OStJ, newly appointed Chief Commissioner of St John Ambulance Cymru, brings over 30 years of volunteer experience. From frontline roles to leadership, she inspires and represents volunteers across Wales, promoting first aid and strengthening communities through her dedication and service.

Sarah-Jane Holden, Chair of the Guild of St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital, has dedicated over 30 years to supporting the Eye Hospital’s vital work. A third-generation member, SJ has led fundraising events of all sizes, ensuring all proceeds go directly to supporting nurses in Gaza who work under challenging conditions. This year, the Guild celebrates its centenary, a testament to the dedication and impact of its members.

Patience M Abinael has served with St John Zimbabwe’s Emergency Medical Service since 2018 as an Ambulance Technician. Inspired by a personal experience with life-saving care, she now provides critical emergency support to patients while breaking stereotypes about women in high-pressure medical roles and inspiring others to pursue careers in EMS.

Fiona Neilson joined St John Scotland in 2019 as a Patient Transport Driver and now works as Patient Transport Co-ordinator and Volunteer Lead for Dumfries and West Galloway. After a 30-year career in the police, she continues to support patients and volunteers while helping expand the local transport service to reach more people in need.
