St John Ambulance is a charity and statutory body that proudly provides the nation’s primary emergency ambulance and emergency medical response service on behalf of the PNG Government. The dedicated team prides itself  on saving lives and helping Papua New Guinean’s and visitors with emergency medical care.

For more than 60 years, St John Ambulance has been a trusted part of the Papua New Guinea community. St John is not-for-profit emergency medical service, supported by government funding, social enterprise, community donations, and corporate sponsorships.

St John PNG works together with partners to provide, develop and strengthen emergency medical response and retrieval services in PNG, as an annex of government. They provide a holistic approach to emergency health care by providing services at all stages of a patient’s emergency journey.

At a community level St John is teaching first aid which equips people with skills to quickly preserve life in the first few moments. The fleet of modern ambulances provides emergency medical response and transport. The at home medical care services helps people get convenient health care at home, reducing the burden on busy emergency departments. St John teaches basic and emergency life support courses to doctors and nurses so they have the skills to provide immediate interventions in rural and remote hospitals.

Hundreds of St John personnel proudly and passionately serve in the road and air ambulance service, providing medical response and patient transport services 24/7, 365 days of the year. The ambulance operations across PNG are coordinated from a state-of-the-art emergency control centre in Port Moresby. The centre ensures lifesaving treatment reaches those in need.
