Interventions with Drug Use Incidents in Schools

Malaria remains one of Papua New Guinea’s most persistent public health challenges, particularly affecting children and young people in both urban and rural communities. Limited access to timely information and basic health knowledge often leads to delayed treatment and preventable complications.

Recognising the need for community-based education, National St John Ambulance PNG (NStJA) integrated malaria awareness into its First Aid in Schools (FAIS) program, an initiative aimed at equipping young people with life-saving skills and essential health knowledge.

St John in Guernsey has appointed Heather as Group Chief Executive Officer, taking overall responsibility for leadership, strategy and external affairs across both the ambulance service and the charity. John Atkins has been named Chief Ambulance Officer, with responsibility for frontline services, while Aimee Lihou becomes Chief Operating Officer.

The leadership changes follow the resignation of former CEO Mark Mapp after seven years. The new structure aims to strengthen strategic alignment, improve efficiency and support a sustainable model of care for the islands.

St John Ambulance Kenya hosted the EMEA Master Trainer Programme in Nairobi, uniting delegates from across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa to strengthen first aid training. The programme developed trainers’ technical skills, teaching methods, and learner-centred approaches, enabling them to deliver consistent, high-quality lifesaving education in their communities.

Each year on 7 April, the world celebrates World Health Day, a moment to reflect on global health challenges and the role of science in improving well-being. At St John, we see this day as an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to quality care, community service, and the application of scientific knowledge across all our programmes, including First Aid training and emergency response.

As we celebrate Easter, this prayer reminds us of the new life and hope revealed in Jesus. It encourages us to carry his compassion into the world and to serve others with renewed strength and purpose.

Four people from Guernsey have been honoured for their exceptional dedication and service to the community. They were formally invested into the Order of St John at a ceremony held at St John’s Gate in London, recognising their contributions to ambulance services, first aid, and volunteer work across the island.
