Coast Guard Day on 4 August honors the bravery and lifesaving efforts of Malta’s emergency teams, including volunteers from St John Ambulance and Rescue Malta. A recent sea rescue showcased their quick response and teamwork under challenging conditions. Volunteers overcame difficult terrain to assist, earning heartfelt thanks from the rescued person’s family. This day celebrates their courage, dedication, and vital role in protecting lives on both sea and land.

August is National Traffic Awareness Month, promoting safer driving and shared responsibility on the roads. In Australia, with over 634 road deaths in 2024, initiatives like Truckie First Aid, a free online course by St John Ambulance and NatRoad, equip truck drivers with lifesaving first aid skills. Since late 2023, more than 2,170 drivers have completed the course, which is expanding to Punjabi and Mandarin to better serve diverse drivers. Supported by a $4.4 million grant from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, the program enhances emergency response on Australia’s roads.

Guernsey’s longest-serving paramedic, Andy Adam, has marked an extraordinary 40 years of continuous service with the St John Ambulance and Rescue Service — starting his career on St John Day in 1985. A former St John cadet turned professional paramedic, Andy has become a respected leader, mentor, and frontline responder, contributing to major incident planning, marine rescue, and healthcare support across the Bailiwick. Recognised as an Officer of the Order of St John, Andy continues to serve with unwavering dedication, embodying the values of compassion, teamwork, and service to humanity.

A new Blue Plaque has been unveiled and Guernsey’s ambulance headquarters renamed ‘Blanchford House’ in honour of Reginald Blanchford, the visionary founder of the St John Ambulance and Rescue Service. Marking his pioneering contributions to emergency medical care in the Bailiwick, the ceremony on St John Day (24 June) brought together dignitaries, family, and former colleagues to celebrate his enduring legacy.

The Order warmly welcomes Dr Doré and looks forward to his leadership in advancing its mission of care, compassion, and community resilience worldwide.

After nine years of dedicated service, the Right Reverend Tim Stevens will step down as Prelate of the Order of St John on St John’s Day 2025. Throughout his tenure, Tim has brought wisdom, compassion, and spiritual guidance to the Order, championing diversity, inclusion, and the deep connection between faith and service. His leadership has been marked by humility and integrity, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to inspire. We thank Tim for his invaluable contribution and unwavering commitment to the Order’s mission.
