On Friday, 5 December 2025, St John Kenya held their Mother and Baby Programme End-of-Year Reflection Meeting, bringing together Community Health Promoters (CHPs), volunteers and key community stakeholders from Kajiado North Sub-County. The meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on the programme’s journey, acknowledge collective achievements, capture lessons learned and agree on next steps following the successful completion of the 2025 pilot.
The meeting focused on reviewing achievements and challenges from the 2025 pilot, strengthening partnerships with community leaders and institutions, and recognising the contribution of CHPs and volunteers.
Community leaders and representatives from county government, local administration, faith-based organisations, disability advocacy groups, Nyumba Kumi structures and the National Police Service participated in the discussions. Stakeholders reflected on how the Mother and Baby Programme has contributed to improved maternal and child health outcomes while reinforcing community-led health action across Kajiado North Sub-County.

A key milestone shared during the meeting was the formal submission of the final 2025 pilot report to St John International, marking the successful close of the pilot phase. The Mother and Baby Programme exceeded all agreed performance targets, demonstrating strong delivery, coordination and community engagement throughout the year.
Achievements included:
-
4,003 primary beneficiaries reached, exceeding the target of 3,600
-
27,830 community health lessons delivered, representing 232% of the annual target
These results reflect the commitment of CHPs and volunteers, effective collaboration with local stakeholders, and consistent follow-up at household and community levels. The outcomes position the programme well for continued implementation and scale-up in 2026, with a continued focus on consistency, data-driven delivery, strengthened reporting and partnership synergy.

Stakeholders recognised St John Kenya’s inclusive and collaborative approach, highlighting effective engagement with administrative leaders, faith-based institutions, PWD representatives and Nyumba Kumi structures. This approach was noted as a key factor in increasing awareness and uptake of maternal and child health services.
Positive feedback was also shared regarding regular follow-up visits by CHPs and the provision of delivery packs, which have supported dignity, preparedness and safer delivery journeys for expectant mothers. The Kajiado County Government further recognised the programme’s contribution to strengthening CHP data collection and reporting, improving the quality and timeliness of information used for decision-making at community level.

St John Kenya reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to community-based health programming through active participation by senior leadership and the Mother and Baby programme team, underscoring continued support for the programme’s impact and future direction.
Recognition of CHPs and volunteers was a central highlight of the meeting. Each was acknowledged and presented with a token of appreciation in recognition of their dedication to household visits, maternal health education, community mobilisation, accurate and timely data reporting, and selfless service to mothers, caregivers and children. Their contribution remains central to the success of the Mother and Baby Programme.

The End-of-Year Reflection Meeting reconfirmed the value of strong community partnerships, consistent engagement and responsive maternal health programming. As the Mother and Baby Programme transitions from pilot to continued implementation in 2026, the programme remains focused on empowering mothers and caregivers, improving maternal and child health outcomes, and strengthening local systems and partnerships for sustainable impact.

St John International congratulates St John Kenya on the successful completion of the 2025 pilot of the Mother and Baby Programme. The results achieved reflects the power of locally led, community-based health initiatives and the strength of collaborative partnerships. As the programme moves into its next phase in 2026, St John International remains committed to supporting St John Kenya in strengthening maternal and child health outcomes, building resilient local systems, and expanding the reach and impact of the Mother and Baby Programme.
