We are proud to announce that the National St John Ambulance Service of Papua New Guinea has received the Excellence in Staff Development Award at the Council of Ambulance Authorities’ 2026 Awards for Excellence.
The award recognises the National Ambulance Education College: Building PNG’s Pre-hospital Workforce initiative, which was judged alongside leading ambulance programs from Australia and New Zealand.
Through this program, Papua New Guineans are being trained in Papua New Guinea to become qualified ambulance officers—equipped with nationally recognised skills aligned with international best practice.
The initiative is:
🚑 Training ambulance officers who understand local communities and languages
🎓 Building a PNG-based teaching faculty
📚 Delivering courses suited to PNG’s clinical, cultural and operational realities
📈 Creating structured career pathways, including future in-house Advanced Life Support clinicians
❤️ Strengthening access to reliable, high-quality emergency care across the country
This marks the second consecutive year that National St John Ambulance has been recognised at the CAA Awards for Excellence—an outstanding achievement for Papua New Guinea and its growing ambulance service.
This recognition belongs to our ambulance officers, educators, staff, volunteers, partners and supporters whose dedication is helping build a skilled, sustainable and locally trained emergency care workforce.
Together, we are strengthening ambulance care and saving lives throughout Papua New Guinea. 🇵🇬
The education team—comprising Commander Alexander Dimain; educators Anthony Pryke, Stevie Nion, Charles Wakinau and Vagi Ila; and Paramedic Specialist Advisor Glen Beasly—presented the award-winning NAEC program at the CAA Congress.
