Deborah McKinnon, Service Delivery Officer – PAD and CPR, shares her reflections on the partnership between St John Scotland and Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) which has led to the installation of a wind and solar powered AED at Baron’s Haugh.

During their Royal Visit to Guernsey on 17th July 2024, His Majesty King Charles (Sovereign Head of the Order of St John) and Her Majesty Queen Camilla met Guernsey’s Chief Ambulance Officer, the Knight Commander and the Chairman of St John Guernsey and the CEO of the St John charity in St Peter Port. Their Majesties were also introduced to a  representative of the marine ambulance team and acknowledged the crew of the Flying Christine III who were on the harbour pontoon. 

We are pleased to share that Matthew Glozier an Australian-based historian and history teacher, has written another incredible book titled Symbols of Hope. The new book follows on from the successful A Beacon of Hope.

Symbols of Hope was launched by Matthew Glozier and Jamie Ingham Clark during this year’s Grand Council, on Wednesday 10^th July.

The purpose of St John International is to facilitate the global narrative and governance of St John services, and provide support based on individual assessments of the current activities and needs of our local organisations and establishments.

A new website was required to better meet our needs as a diverse and growing global organisation, aligned with our #OneStJohn strategy.

During this year’s St John’s Day ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral, The Rector of Liverpool, Reverend Canon Dr Crispin Pailing shared a values-driven sermon with us.

June 24th is the Feast Day of our patron saint, St John the Baptist, under whose name we serve communities across 44 countries. Our hundreds of thousands of volunteers and staff touch the lives of millions of people each year under the banner of our eight pointed white cross and in the name of “St John”.

Two years can seem to pass by in the blink of an eye – think of a parent watching two years pass in their child’s life or two years at a job that brings joy and fulfillment. But in different circumstances, two years can move agonizingly slow. That has been the case in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

It’s International Volunteer’s Week, and to celebrate all our amazing and selfless volunteers, we will be highlighting some of the incredible volunteers of St John and their many different volunteer roles!
