Dedicated Patient Transport Driver and Volunteer Leader: Trish Aitke

Trish Aitken has been a valued member of St John Scotland for the past eight years, serving as a Patient Transport Driver and supporting dialysis patients across Fife. In this role, Trish ensures patients travel safely between their homes and the renal units at Queen Margaret Hospital and Victoria Hospital, providing a vital service that contributes to patient wellbeing and continuity of care.

For the past four years, Trish has also served as Deputy Transport Co-ordinator, helping manage the day-to-day operations of patient transport services. This position requires organisation, reliability, and a strong understanding of both volunteer and patient needs qualities Trish brings to every aspect of her work. At the end of last year, she further extended her contribution by taking on the role of Treasurer for the Fife Area, demonstrating her commitment to supporting the organisation in multiple capacities.

Trish’s motivation stems from a genuine love of driving, meeting new people, and helping others. She particularly values the opportunity to connect with patients, offering reassurance and a friendly presence on their journeys. Her dedication, reliability, and personable approach make a real difference to both patients and colleagues.

For Trish, the most rewarding aspect of volunteering with St John Scotland is the chance to keep learning, develop new skills, and make a meaningful contribution to her local community while supporting vital services across the region.
