33 Years of Inspiring Youth Through Service: Makaylia Ravlich:

For more than three decades, Makaylia Ravlich has dedicated her time, passion and leadership to supporting young people through her work with St John NT. As the Volunteer Territory Officer Youth, Makaylia plays a key role in shaping the organisation’s youth program across the Northern Territory, helping young members grow into confident leaders and skilled first aiders.

Makaylia first became involved with St John in 1993, beginning a journey that would span more than 33 years of volunteer service. Throughout this time, she has progressed through a range of leadership roles, each one strengthening her commitment to youth development, first aid education and community service. Her long-standing involvement reflects both her dedication to the organisation and her belief in the power of volunteering to positively influence young lives.

In her current role, Makaylia works closely with youth division leaders across the Territory to support and expand the youth program. Her responsibilities include mentoring leaders, coordinating youth activities and events, supporting safeguarding and wellbeing initiatives, and ensuring programs meet organisational standards. At the heart of her work is a strong focus on creating opportunities for young people to develop confidence, leadership skills and clinical capability.

Beyond her formal responsibilities, Makaylia has also played an important role in strengthening and modernising the youth program. She has contributed to improving youth resources, enhancing communication with families and volunteers, and developing stronger leadership pathways for young members and volunteer leaders alike. Her approach focuses on creating supportive environments where young people feel valued, respected and encouraged to reach their potential.

One of Makaylia’s proudest achievements is helping the youth program evolve while supporting volunteers to deliver high-quality training and meaningful recognition opportunities. For her, the greatest reward is seeing the long-term impact that mentoring and guidance can have on young people’s lives.

A particularly memorable moment in her journey was watching a young person she had mentored progress from youth member to qualified paramedic. Seeing that full-circle journey reinforced her belief in the lasting difference that investing in young people can make.

Through her leadership and dedication, Makaylia has fostered a culture of encouragement, collaboration and growth within the youth program. Her work ensures that young members not only gain valuable skills within St John, but also develop the confidence and capability to contribute positively to their communities.
