Where we work Europe and Middle East Gibraltar St John Gibraltar runs an Emergency Ambulance Service and Patient Transport Service as well as first aid courses for the general public. Services First Aid Volunteers provide training in first aid as well as providing cover at public events across the Rock of Gibraltar. Events and Festivals Volunteers provide first aid and ambulance cover at a wide variety of events and festivals within Gibraltar. These have included concerts in St Michael’s Cave, National Day celebrations, power boat races, and other sporting events. By providing these services we help to ensure that should a medical emergency occur, the patient receives the best possible care within minutes. If necessary, our trained teams will transfer the patient to St Bernard’s Hospital for further medical care Patient Transport Service St John volunteers provide a patient transport service which makes available a number of different services, including: Local Transfers - Transferring patients from either their homes or centres in Gibraltar to the Primary Care Centre, St Bernard’s Hospital, or other centres within Gibraltar. Scans - Patients are normally picked up from St Bernard’s Hospital and transported to and from scan centres at Algeciras or Málaga. Scans include CT scan, MRI, Mammogram, VQ, Doppler, and Holter. International Transfers - Moving of patients from local hospitals to the airport or to hospitals in Spain for treatment or long-term stays. Collection of blood and platelets Our volunteers collect blood and platelets, mostly from Jerez, and bring them to Gibraltar.
