Debi Thompson has dedicated 28 years to St John, building a career defined by commitment, expertise, and a deep connection to the organisation’s mission. Since 2018, she has been a proud Member of the Order of St John, an acknowledgment of her contributions and dedication over nearly three decades of service.
Debi currently serves as the Finance Manager for the National Product Sourcing Unit (NPSU) at the St John Australian Office. The NPSU plays a crucial role in supporting St John states and territories, as well as international branches including St John PNG, by providing defibrillators, first aid kits, and components at low cost. It also manages the national online shop, where profits are rebated monthly back to St John states and territories, and coordinates centralised billing for large corporate clients. This structure provides clients with a single national point of contact while enabling states to retain and grow key accounts.
In her role, Debi oversees a wide range of responsibilities including client billing, financial reporting, reconciliations, cash flow management, budgeting, rebates, foreign currency management, financial audits, stocktakes, financial analysis, and general oversight of the NPSU finance function.
For Debi, the work goes far beyond numbers and reports. “Working as a Finance Manager for St John Ambulance Australia is more than a professional role for me — it is a chance to combine financial experience with meaningful community impact. I am personally motivated by the opportunity to contribute to an organization that plays such a vital role in emergency response, first aid training, and community health across Australia.”
Within the not-for-profit environment of St John, where resources must be carefully maximised, Debi’s financial strategies directly support branches, helping frontline volunteers and lifesaving services continue their essential work. Her dedication ensures that every financial decision contributes not only to organisational efficiency but also to the broader mission of keeping communities safe and healthy.
