Advanced Responder and Youth Leader: Grace Johnstone

Grace Johnstone has devoted four years to St John Ambulance Australia, serving as an Advanced Responder with the Palmerston Adult Division and Divisional Officer for Farrar Youth. Balancing operational responsibilities with leadership duties, Grace supports adult volunteering while coordinating weekly youth division activities, mentoring young members, and helping them develop clinical skills and confidence to attend events.

Having aged out of Farrar Youth herself, Grace was motivated to give back to the division that shaped her. Taking on a leadership role allowed her to continue contributing while guiding the next generation of volunteers. She plays a key role in helping youth members attend their first events, offering hands-on support and encouragement as they gain practical experience in real-world settings.

Grace’s dedication is reflected in her personal achievements, including serving as a Priory Esquire representing St John at a national level, winning Nationals as a cadet, and being recognised as Adult Volunteer of the Year. Beyond these accolades, her impact is most visible in the confidence and enthusiasm of the young people she mentors. Parents have remarked that their children would rather attend a Farrar divisional night than go out for dinner on their birthday a testament to the safe, supportive, and engaging environment Grace has helped create.

Through her leadership, Grace Johnstone continues to build capable young responders and strengthen the future of St John, inspiring both her peers and the next generation of volunteers.
