Young Heroes Keep Hearts Beating to Save Rotherham’s St John Home

Sixty inspiring young people, aged just 5 to 17, have proven you’re never too young to make a difference, completing an epic CPR marathon to raise vital funds for their local St John Ambulance network in Rotherham.

The challenge brought together Badgers and Cadets for an hour of non-stop CPR in small teams, raising £816.17 on the night, with more donations still coming in. This effort takes the total fundraising for the Sheffield and Rotherham Network to an impressive £5,449.75 since its formation in March 2025.

But for these determined young people, the marathon was about more than money. Their much-loved Rotherham building, a space where they’ve learned, laughed, and grown, is at risk of closure. Refusing to stand by, they decided to take action in the most inspiring way possible.

Led by Badger Leader and network fundraising lead Sue Farmer, the group collected sponsorships and rallied the community to get behind the cause. “On both nights I was so proud of the Badgers and Cadets,” said Sue. “They were so enthusiastic about raising vital funds. Everyone seemed to be having fun, and even the adults took part in performing CPR.”

The Badger programme offers young people a chance to learn vital first aid skills in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. Alongside building confidence and self-esteem, participants explore topics such as communication, healthy living, and community service, skills that last a lifetime.

The group’s determination shows the power of youth leadership and teamwork, and they are calling on the community for continued support to help secure the future of their building.
